Baptism is the sacrament of rebirth and new life. Jesus spoke of the significance of baptism: “Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” (John 3:5) Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. (CCC 1213)
